On Saturday the Alice High School junior class will hold a carne guisada plate sale fundraiser. Money raised through the sale will go towards funding the various projects the junior class puts together, such as the homecoming dance and prom as well as $4,000 in scholarships.

ALFRED – Francisco “Frank” Garcia, 43 died Monday, August 30, 2010 in a San Antonio hospital following an extended illness. He was born to Jesus and Maria (Smithwick) Garcia in Alice, Texas, on December 20, 1966. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Smithwick Garcia; three brothers; Juan, Jesus and Felix; and two sisters, Maria Martinez and Adelida Smithwick.
FREER – Rumaldo Guerrero, 96, passed away on September 2, 2010 in a San Antonio hospital after a short illness. He was a retired oilfield worker for many years.
FALFURRIAS, Texas – Raymundo Salazar Jr., 41, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at his residence in Kingsville, Texas. He was born on October 7, 1968, to Raymundo Salazar and Matilde Carbajal Salazar in Falfurrias, Texas.
ALICE - Alberta Gonzalez, 90, passed away August 28, 2010 in an Alice nursing home. She was born March 6, 1920 in Charcoal, Texas, to Ignacio and Natalia Gonzalez.

Pound Pets features several puppies. The Alice Echo-News Journal along with the city’s animal shelter continue to highlight shelter dogs and cats that need to be adopted. To date, 31 animals have been adopted that were featured in the newspaper. In 2009, 140 animals were rescued.
